Is 50501 Telstra's Network ID, or their network operator ID?

I.E. I believe that their GSM network uses this number. Should the
NextG network be using the same one?

"50501" identifies a PLMN (public land-mobile network),
consisting of a 3-digit MCC ("505" = Australia) followed by a
2-digit MNC (North American MNCs are 3-digit).

From GSM 03.03:

"Mobile Country Code (MCC) identifies the country in which the
GSM PLMN is located. The value of the MCC is the same as the
three digits MCC contained in international mobile subscriber
identity (IMSI)

Mobile Network Code (MNC) is a code identifying the GSM PLMN in
that country. The MNC takes the same value as the two or three
digit MNC contained in IMSI".

PLMN is (for Australia) the first 5 digits of the IMSI, which
uniquely identifies a SIM. I don't have a Telstra 3GSM SIM
from which to read the IMSI. If you're able to use serial "AT"
commands (via Hyperterminal) to interact with a 3GSM phone with
the SIM inserted, the read command is:

AT+CIMI

I suspect Telstra's PLMN ID is "50501" for both GSM and 3GSM,
but I can't prove it.
