I am trying to find an Australian service offering a call centre (24/7)
which can take calls and send out messages via both the GSM SMS service
and also through an Alphanumeric Pager service.

It would be preferred that this company's call centre is also
Australian-based due to the needs of our company.

Anyone heard of anything? Have any suggestions?

I think <http://www.link.com.au/> might fit your requirements.

I would have thought that with the proliferation of the mobile phone
network, that pagers outside of a business's assets (hospitals,
factories, etc.) would be largely redundant.

Having said that, we have guys at work carrying two pagers; one for the
CFA and another for SES contacts.

The mobile phone carriers really missed the boat with this one!  If they
had of upgraded the SMS side of things they could have gone for the
Victorian EAS paging contract.  SES, RAV and CFA are all going on to
this new paging network.

When CFA finally receives enough EAS pagers they will no longer need to
carry two pagers.  Just as well with the size of them!  They will simply
have to fill in a request form to have both services programmed into the
one pager.
