Telstra #100# not working

The Telstra #100# USSD service which allows pre-paid top-up,
available balance query, credit transfer to another user, etc
has been down for several days (since the weekend at least).
Dialling #100# results in "Unfortunately this service is
currently unavailable. Please try later."

Does anyone know what's going on?

It's not settings.  I'm using a Wavecom 1206b modem and the

AT+CUSD=1,"#100#"

command to initiate the USSD session.  And the modem response is

+CUSD: 2,"Unfortunately this service is currently unavailable.
Please try later.",15

where the "2" unambiguously means Telstra terminated the
session, after delivering that text (GSM 07.07).

#100# is working fine on my 2 Next G mobiles... and has been for the
last few days.

Thanks - still not working on ordinary GSM pre-paid.  Is yours
pre-paid?

Maybe the downtime is related to an upgrade to accommodate
pre-paid Next G.

I don't know what part of #100# you are using but I just tried it on my GSM
prepaid and it printed my current balance.

Thanks.  I just tried another Telstra pre-paid SIM and that
works OK.  I don't know what's going on with the first SIM, but
it used to work with #100#, has heaps of credit and time left,
and lets me make calls.

Have you asked Customer Service?

Don't be silly - better to ask those who might know something
first!

Good to see that Telstra's customer service is still so poor that even the
simplest of requests like this require the intervention of the Ombudsman or
unofficial support from Telstra staff on newsgroups. Telstra should be
threatened with having their carrier licence revoked or restricted if they
cannot improve on their poor record. Not a thing has changed since that
Balding kid died.
