Nokia 6110 navigator - opinions

Is anyone here using a 6110? If so, what do you think of it? Any problems
with it?
I'm looking for a reasonably cheap phone for my wife and can get one of
these for free on a $30 capped plan.

No1 son bought one a month or so back. Got back yesterday after three weeks in
Japan. Works a treat, GPS came in handy over there but couldn't get decent
signals in Tokyo. No probs whatosever with the device, would happily buy the
same again.

Okay. Got one of these and while it all seems to work okay, the maps that
come with the device are from Q4 2006. Installed the route 66 software that
comes with it and to upgrade to the latest maps is 50 euros. WTF?
If Nokia are using the navigation abilities as a selling point surely they
should have up to date maps preinstalled, or at least provide you with 1
free upgrade to bring you up to date.

I'll be calling the Nokia customer care centre on Monday............

Didn't Nokia just spend $1.3Bn buying Navteq? Sounds like they want that to
start paying dividends straight off.

The Navtech data works with Nokia maps - not the Route 66 software that's on
the 6110. For that you need to buy the maps directly from Route 66.

Might not have to call them. Just found a torrent - I'll let you know how up
to date it is once it's finished downloading.

Son in law has one with 3. He says that it works fine, a lot better than
the the LG flipphone that 3 supplied with his first contract with them.
That used to cut out all the time when on the train as it entered 3G black
holes and failed to switch over to GSM. But the Nokia works OK, he says.
