Whether or not it's a "long way" is nothing whatever to do with "simple
maths" - it's down to an entirely objective view of the difference
between a "long way" and "close".
> 100% of shares owned by Australians = Australian owned
> 0% of shares owned by Australians = foreign owned
>
> 85% of shares owned by Aussies, you can pretty much define that as
> "Australian owned:"
The lie that parkybot spouts over and over and over and over and ... is
that Telstra is Australian owned and therefore its profits stay in
Australia and Optus is foreign owned and therefore its profits go overseas.
But apparently Optus doesn't make a profit, so that means that none of
Optus's profits go overseas. Telstra makes quite a large profit - and
(if your figure of 15% is to be believed) 15% of Telstra's dividends go
overseas. 15% of Telstra's dividends is quite a lot of money. And that's
leaving aside the unknown proportion of Telstra shares that are owned by
"Australian" companies which are themselves at least partly foreign-owned.
*That* is a bloody long way from none of Telstra's and all of Optus's
profits going overseas!
Have i put it simply enough for your grasp of "simple maths" to make
sense of it yet?

Oops! Not quite... I meant to say it's down to an entirely *subjective*
view of the difference... (although i doubt Michael would understand the
difference!)

which technically means that the Singaporeans are subsidising Australia, not
raping it like the parkybot likes to claim.

I'm not sure of the exact figure, but it used to be in the Telstra annual
report, year on year.

But its still only 15% of the total profit. Not sure how the gross amount is
relevant

Bit of a pointless point there, splitting hairs.
You might have a partner who is from overseas, and so half your net worth is
technically owned overseas. Pointless.
