Channel Ten has been accused for an online marketing "cover-up spree",
in which numerous fan videos promoting Jeremy Shum for 2009 have been
deleted, in order to ensure strong ratings for 2008. This has upset
various users, who have vowed to respond by not watching the 2008
series, in lead to 2009 which is expected to be a hit.

When a user now attempts to visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mkP0fWg_qc,
they are addressed with a legal message which states "This video is no
longer available due to a copyright claim by Warner/Chappell Music
Australia Pty Ltd". YouTube has responded by removing the videos.

Neither Channel Ten nor YouTube would comment on the circumstances, in
light of a possibility that Australian Idol 2008 may be the last
series on national television, following the footsteps of Big Brother.
Media critics have also noted Australian Idol's "family-friendly"
product placement is somehow out of line with it's actions in removing
members of the Hillsong Church in consecutive weeks, once Channel
Seven had revealed the Australian Idol Top 12 who admitted to being
Christian.

Ummmm...

Someone help me here.

Someone is putting up a number of fan videos promoting a certain
contestant for 2009, and the AusIdol people are taking them down for
copyright violation or the like?

Something more is going on here, and I'd like more of the backstory
behind this...

OK, but reading this appears to indicate that Jeremy Shum is:

1) Already receiving significant support for a 2009 AusIdol season,
and
2) That Shum is already under contract to Warner/Chappell.

Or is Shum a 2008 contestant?

Any Aussies down there, help us understand this...

The Idol franchise is on its way out.

So AusIdol is as fixed as the American version, eh?  No real shock
there...  Why risk a champion who is completely unsaleable?

Idol is all about control.  Not even God can compete with TPTB.

What has Australian Idol honestly got to cover up anyway? It's all
useless nonsense; it's all about control of the mass. I think just as
Channel Ten stopped airing American Idol, Australian Idol is the next
to go. This "cover-up" spree is just another example of why Australian
Idol doesn't deserve a "2009"; so sorry Jeremy Shum fans, but this is
it, in my opinion.

I'm still unclear as to exactly what is going on here.

Unless they have already named the 2009 winner (Shum) and signed him
(!!! -- a full season in advance!) and built the entire AusIdol
franchise for the next minimum of two seasons around this guy, I don't
see what's going on here.

Now, knowing the Idol franchise, that's exactly what I think has
happened, but I'm just not clear as to what's being put together here,
that's all.
