Nokia PC Suite & dongle

For some strange reason could not install Nokia's PC Suite on my computer
-- tried everything, and InstallShield could not complete the install,
providing a msg to the effect that it was interrupted and cannot
continue. NokiaUSA techs say they have not experienced this. Has anyone
else out there had any problems ???

At any rate, giving up on that, purchased a Belkin 100 meter dongle which
I also had a difficult time installing -- As it evolves, the install
booklet is not only incomplete, but inaccurate, for it does not consider
WinXP SP2.  FYI, their web site has the install details which is not in
the package.   And presumably the dongle will do all that PC suite does.

PC Suite for the Nokia 6600 installed flawlessly under Windows XP SP2
for me.

One thing to remember - SP2 has "security" stuff in it that makes it
wig out when InstallShield is trying to update stuff. Virus scanners
can do the same thing.

Make sure you've got admin privileges to the box you're installing on.

I know nothing about the "Belkin 100 meter dongle." If you think you're
going to get 100 meters on Bluetooth, it must have one hell of a nice
high-gain antenna on it.

I do wonder how you think a dongle is going to perform the same
functions as the PC Suite, though - I can't imagine a way for a piece
of hardware to import calendar entries from Lotus Notes and dump them
into the phone's calendar.

Interesting that you and presumably every one else can install this
program, yet my computer will not.   Yes, I am the Administrator (and
only user of the computer), and Windows firewall is shut down as is
Norton Antivirus.   Also interesting is that I have no difficulty any
other program that uses InstallShield -- In fact, yesterday I
re-installed Belkin's Bluetooth which uses InstallShield and didn't have
a problem.

Don't know why I need the 100 meter dongle since all work will be done
right next to the computer.   Except perhaps will be able to walk around
the house and use the headset to the computer -- but cannot think of a
reason why that would be of any value (Until the day we have voice
commands to open doors and set the refrigerator.  However, in an office
environment, I can imagine current usage of printer access, etc.)  FYI, I
saw at CompUSA another dongle which claimed 150 meters. Mine is BT
version 1.1 and I understand there is a 1.2 standard that has been agreed
upon and they are working on another standard which will be 2.0.  Perhaps
that one will carry for a full kilometer!

Regarding the dongle performing the same a the PC Suite, it will import
and export address book entries, photos, text, and presumably the same
with calendar -- however I do not use Lotus Notes so have no direct
knowledge.
