Nokia 6630 & Bluetooth Headset

Hi,

I just brought this bluetooth headset from my local maplin store
(http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=48828&TabID=1&source=1&doy=3m3#spec),
not sure what make/model it is at the moment, (box is at home, which check
and post later) however I can't seem to get it working with my Nokia 6630,
according to the manual it can be paired with 2 phones at any one time, and
I have it paired with my 6230i, (which was really easy). If I try and pair
it with my 6630, it finds the headset when searching, then you select it,
after about 5 seconds trying to connect it pop up with "unable to pair with
headset".

And I've just noticed the 6230i has started playing up, this morning when
you turned the headset off, then on again, it and the phone would auto
connect, and stay connected, however since trying to pair the headset with
the 6630, the headset no longer auto-connects to the 6230i, and when you do
connect the devices manually, they stay connected for about 2 minutes, then
drop the connection!

Anyone had any other problems with the 6630 and bluetooth headsets?

Cheers

Ben

This is a common question on alt.cellular.bluetooth.

Due to the way in which Nokia phones work, a bluetooth headset will only
work correctly with a Nokia phone if it is permanently connected. The
cheap headset you have bought can not be connected to both those phones
at the same time.

If you use the menu options on the Nokia phones to manually connect and
disconnect from the headset you will find it is able to reconnect to the
headset, but you can not tell both phones to 'connect' and have both of
the phones reply 'connected'.

It is only Plantronics premium headsets that can allow you to do what
you want, the models you need to look at are the Voyager 510 and
Discovery 640.

Hi Pzboyz,

This is a bit of a pain, but I can cope, if only I can get ONE of the phones
to stay connected. I've tried everything to get the 6230i to stay connected,
however the connection is still dropping after about 40 seconds, even during
mid-conversation. I did work initially, before I tried to connect the 6630.
Is there anyway to sort this problem? I've tried deleting the pairing, and
re-creating it, renaming the phones bluetooth name, just in case the headset
has cached the name or something.

I'm considering taking it back and getting another one, that I won't try and
connect to my 6630.
