If I install XP SP2 do I still need to use the TDK software with my
Bluetooth USB dongle ?
Thanks.

You don't have to, but depending on your usage you may want to.
The TDK provided bluetooth suite still provides the best set of
functionality and desktop integration, but the Microsoft version included in
SP2 covers most of the basics pretty well.
The Microsoft software will let you connect to keyboards and mice, printers,
mobile phones for dial-up networking, serial port devices like phones and
gps units, PAN networking and you also get basic file transfer between
devices.
If you want to use more advanced features like FTP profile file browsing and
using a bluetooth headsets, as well as connecting to LAP network access
points you would still require the TDK software.

How do you enable the bluetooth on SP2? I had SP2 enabled and I could
not get anywhere with my Bluetooth Socket PC card. I could not find any
entries or programs for bluetooth management.

Bluetooth on SP2 requires the Microsoft Bluetooth hardware. For other brands
you have to keep using the stack supplied by the manufacturers.

There is no PC card support in XPSP2 yet.
By the way, all supported USB hardware which worked in SP1 will work in SP2,
including the TDK USB Bluetooth device.

From what I understood the Bluetooth stack on SP2 would interact with
all the listed hardware on Microsoft's site. My card was not on the
list, but others have had success with non listed cards. The list is
pretty short though.
I'm curious though, how to even find any BT wizards or references. I
looked all over my network settings and found none. Does Windows
actually have to detect a BT card on its short list to install the
BT software?

Sorry, I missed the list bit. Are you sure the list isn't of certified
hardware? I'm sure that this would break Widcomm who charges for copy of
software sold. Companies would just then get accepted by MS and stop buying
the (much better) Widcomm software. And what about new hardware? Device
drivers would be downloaded by MS Update? Unlikely. I think the list is of
HQL only.
Anyway, the Microsoft Bluetooth control is in the Control Panel after
installed, Wireless icon.

hardware.

Thanks much guys, now I get it. TDK Systems I pretty much gave up on my
Socket card and ordered a TDK PC card plus. I was curious if you had any
good info on this card.
My main concern is using my laptop as an audio gateway, ex: caller ID
pops up on my laptop, I answer the phone call on my laptop using the
laptop speakers and microphone. TDK's and expansys descriptions describe
this, I just hope the reality is as good as the hype.
I will be using: Sony TR2A laptop TDK PC card plus with whatever the
latest driver/software is. Sony Ericsson T608 cell phone.
Thanks much for the help guys.

You should check with this issue first, before investing towards the
audio gateway.
The TR1A microphone constantly records hard-drive and touchpad noise
at a very audible level (even small clicks/taps are amplified). I
could not find a solution for my TR1A.
Nevertheless, I would like to know if your model (TR2A) has the noise
problem.
