I'm in the process of cataloging all active Cingular SIDs, but I came
across a few areas where I'm not sure whether the old SID is still
active or whether that market has been folded into another SID. In
general, I suspect that SIDs correspond to the Mobile to Mobile
Calling Areas, ie. one SID per Mobile to Mobile Calling area, but I'd
like some reassurance (or evidence to the contrary) on that.
Here are the specific markets I have questions about:
TX
00297 (Bryan) [probably part of Houston system]
01723 (TX-17) [probably part of Houston system]
01716 (TX-12/TX-13/TX-14) [probably part of Abilene system]
????? (TX-11.2) [unknown SID]
MS
01374 (MS-1.1) [may be part of Memphis system]
AL
01011 (AL-6) [may be part of Mobile system]
GA
00426 (Macon/GA-6.4/GA-7.2) [may be part of Atlanta system]
FL
00308 (Daytona Beach/FL-5.1) [probably part of Orlando system]
00476 (Melbourne) [probably part of Orlando system]
MO
00017 (Columbus/MO-7/MO-10) [SID has likely changed]
IN
01207 (IN-8) [may be part of Evansville system]
01209 (IN-9) [may be part of Evansville system]
WI
00210 (Madison/Janesville/WI-9.2) [prob. part of Milwaukee system]
NY
01511 (NY-4) [probably part of Syracuse system]
00235 (Utica) [probably part of Syracuse system]
NJ/PA
00029 (Philadelphia)
00173 (New Brunswick)
00177 (Long Branch)
00267 (Atlantic City)
00575 (Trenton)
00583 (Vineland)
01489 (NJ-2)
Each line should read as follows (example line 1): Does Cingular
maintain SID 00297 for the Bryan, TX market or is that market part of
the Houston system and uses the same SID as Houston?
If you're not familiar with the geographic scope of CMAs you can find
the CMA to county mapping at
http://wireless.fcc.gov/auctions/data/crossreferences/cmacnty1990.xls.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Do you think anybody says to a fact-checker for Grolier's, "why don't
you just go look it up in that big encyclopedia on your desk...?" ;-)
