What's the best overall prepaid cellular phone service? e.g. longest time
before unused minutes expire, inexpensive phone, reliable, clarity,
coverage, etc. I plan to use it mainly for emergencies and short
conversations and don't need a phone with a lot of features. Is "Free2Go
Wireless Prepaid" from AT&T good?

Also, I will be moving soon to a new area code. Can I buy the phone in my
current area code and request a number in the new area code?

check out eCallPlus (www.ecallplus.com); uses the ATT TDMA system, but has
longer expiration time (90 days). Also see Pharos International
(www.pharosint.com) for deals on ecallplus.

yes, but you will lose any minutes when you make the transfer.

Ecallplus doesn't care what area code you are in. They'd happily sell you a
New York number evenough you are in Los Angeles.

I've been happy with Virgin Mobile. Your time never expires as long as you
add $20 every 90 days. I'm just finishing time I bought in December, and I
don't use it much.

With Virgin, you can request a phone assignment anywhere through the web
interface.

Charles Hawtrey wrote that Virgin Mobile just has coverage along major
highways and cities and he suggested T-Mobile. Where's T-Mobile
coverage??? Now, Virgin Mobile runs on Sprint PCS, which covers a POP
of 243 Million people. Last time I checked T-Mobile covered a POP of
218 Million. There's the difference.
Of course you can look into T-Mobile, it's just that Sprint does have
a larger network than T-Mobile.
