My Cellular Carrier sent me a refurbished Motorola 120e. I really like
the cell phone, but everytime I make a call from my house people
complain that I am "breaking up." Is this common with Motorola Cell
Phones? Could it be the connection from my home or because it is a
refurbished phone? I had an older model Nokia and whenever I made a
phone call from home, it wasn't clear to the receiving party, also.
This is what my friends tell me. My carrier is Alltel.
Also, My cell phone beeps a lot! I know it's not a missed call or a
date reminder. What could it be? I'm sorry for so many questions. I'm
not a heavy cell phone user. I used the phone only eight times in a ten
month period. I would appreciate any help. Please keep out the "smart
remarks" when responding; Thanks!
Let your nephew (or someone that uses cellphones alot) have a look at your
120e and let them call on it few times.. and they will tell ya what they
think..
If you are only receiving a couple of bars worth of signal from the carrier,
that might bet part of the problem.
Can you extend the antenna on the 120e? I don't remember about that model.
I never had one. Try extending your antenna to see if it makes any
difference on the "breaking up" problem you are experienceing with your
phone.
Hope this helps!

Not really. A couple of Motorola's really low end models (like c332 and
t193, which I was dumb enough to suffer with) are bad all around, but most
other models have great reception.

Could be either easily.

Which model? Was it always like that? The 5100 series had good reception.

Hard to say. Nothing appears on the display? It could be a dropped service
alert, but I didn't think many/any phones had that any more. If I recall
correctly, I had a motorola that had a low battery warning that seemed to
warn you too early and it wouldn't stop either (you had to put up with it
beeping for hours, or recharge it).

Alltel sells the 3285 and 3585 and used to sell the 5185 and 6185. (Actually,
I don't know if they sell the 3285 anymore; Nokia might have discontinued it)
I had an Alltel Nokia 6185 that ran pretty well on Alltel's network in
Cleveland, although it shares the older Nokia CDMA models' problems with
fringe signal areas. The 5185 would probably be the same.
On CDMA networks like Alltel's, I find that Motorola and Kyocera are best
at making phones that hold onto weak signals well. Kyocera will generally
give you much more bang for the buck than the more expensive Motorola phones,
but a lot of people love Motorola phones anyhow. ;)
