I've been a Sprint customer for 5 or 6 years and while I have always had
good and stable signal from them, my current phone , a Sanyo 8100, sound
quality is so bad that I find myself just using it as a pager on incoming
calls and just returning calls on a land line later and postponing my out
going calls for a land line too. Obviously this has resulted in my minute
usage going way down and now I am wondering if maybe I could just
discontinue my Sprint agreement, (out of contract period), and get a
Tracfone. While the minute cost is higher today, it does seem to be the
coming down  and at least I wouldn't have to play the silly," marketing,
contract, rebate", games that all the carriers are so set on. Some have said
that the Motorola V60 is a good basic phone with good sound quality and I am
wondering if that holds true for their V60i for use with Tracfone, or if a
different phone would be better for the Houston area. Any help in this area
would be great.

Hi Mick,

I've been a TracFone  user for 3 yrs and have two Nokia 5180i on the Verizon
network.  The only complaint I have with TracFone is their roaming rate is
twice the local  rate, unless you get a GSM model (Nokia 3390 or 1100) which
both offer a single rate.

Although the GSM models have a single rate (free roaming), the GSM network
is still mainly "interstate highways and cities intersected by interstate
highways" coverage.  If not near an interstate or downtown urban city,
chances are you won't have any GSM coverage.

I have never read any complaints on the Motorola v60i series of phones.
TracFone has only been offering them less than a year now.   They are
trimode phones and do support analog.

I guess the question you need to ask yourself before deciding on a TracFone
model or network technology to go with, how much of the time will you
venture outside your local calling area (Houston or South Texas) roaming or
traveling?

Activating a TracFone soon?  Ask me for a referral, and receive an
additional 100 free minutes!  TracFone uses Verizon, Alltel, Cingular and
Suncom networks just to name a few
