Basic SIM Card transfer question

Hi,

I shall be glad if someone could advise me correctly on this one:

I wanted to replace a cell phone (on T-Mobile Prepaid) with another model.

Can any unlocked tri-/quad-band GSM phone be used? Is transferring the SIM
card all one has to do? The user (in the family) uses the phone only for
phone calls - no messaging, Internet or anything else.

Any other relevant information would be very useful and welcome.

Thanks and regards.

So far I've switched my tMobile prepaid SIM between three phones with no
problems: 2 different Nokias and a Motorola.   I don't think any of them are tri
or quad-band... just 1900 as far as I know.

One thing you probably do want to do is to save your names/phone numbers to SIM
if you're currently keeping them in the phone's memory.

Hi,

Thanks for the responses! The info is reassuring. I am sure the transfer
will go fine now. The stored numbers (actually just a handful) have already
been written down!

Regards.

I know that the OP doesn't use sms but a relative from europe wanted to use
my t-mobile sim on a visit here, when they put it in their Sony Ericsson
phone all of the saved sms messages were deleted. The phone did work ok but
the sms were lost, even when the other sim was replaced.

As long as the phone works on the frequency your service uses and
provided that the phone is either for that service or unlocked all you
need to do is take the SIM chip out of one phone and install it in
another one.

Hi,

Thanks for the all responses. No, the user does not do SMS or anything at
all except use the phone for the occasional phone call. The original phone
is being replaced actually with a simpler one that does not have all the
bells and whistles not used at all and which may be confusing actually!

Regards.
