When are cell phone manufacturers going to start putting leds inside
the charger ports so you can find the right spot when getting into a
dark car?  It's the only reason I need to turn on the dome light when
I get in at night. In some neighborhoods doing this could make you a
nice target.

Your dome light doesn't come on when you open the car door?  If it does,
you're a target anytime you enter or leave your vehicle, so what's the
problem?

Can't speak for the OP, but my vehicle has an option to not turn
the dome light on when doors are opened.

That's the exception.  Most cars that do have dome lights have them
hardwired to switches in the doorframes.

Yes, but virtually every car I've ever driven has a three-position switch
built into the dome light that can select between "on" (always on,) "off
(always off,) or "door" (controlled by door switch.)
