I have a new smartphone from Verizon that has the option of using it
as a modem for my laptop.  I have opted for unlimited web access
already.  Does this allow me to use the modem program as well, or will
it count against my airtime?  Or is it even an additional charge not
covered by either?  I emailed Verizon about this over a week ago, but
they have not replied.

Wrong tactic.  You must stand right in front of them so you can be lied to
to your face.  Drop by Verizon and act like you're going to buy something,
which will move you to the head of the que.  Standing in front of the
Voyagers that aren't selling is probably the prime spot.  Play with its
controls, making them think you might break it without supervision.  Open
and close it, unless the security locking device is in the way.

Once you have their undivided attention, ask them why you never got an
answer to a simple email, handing them a COPY of your email request,
date/time stamped, and ask them to READ IT THIS TIME, instead of dumping
it.

He won't know the answer and will try to blow you off with the first thing
that pops into his head, probably all wrong.  So, make sure you carry a
WITNESS to record what he says to you for use later when the $1238.27
airtime bill comes in.

He will have quit or been fired before the bill comes in, so be sure to get
his name and employee number and write it down for the billing struggle,
later.

Been there, done that.

I don't think it will be covered because of the new way Verizon is selling
5GB/month for $60 with 50c/MEGABYTE over that limit....trying to stay away
from the NY state attorney general, Andrew Cuomo, and his internet
investigation unit....(c;

Notice Verizon internet service has nothing to do with the word
"Unlimited" any more.  Cuomo got that fixed.
