Just an FYI for anybody considering Family Talk w/Cingular. I saw
something on PhoneScoop the other day, and Cingular's ad in my morning paper
seems to confirm it, that the $9.99 price for a second phone on a Family
Plan is going away January 31. It did not say what the new rate would be.

Now is the week to jump if you were considering a Cinglar Family Plan.

Then the $9.99 is a much better deal, as the mobile to mobile minutes can
only be used if both phones are in the same calling area.  (if you're both
home, why are you calling each other?)  -Dave

It:'s going to be nation wide mobile to mobile on the new plans

Well in that case the $19.99 isn't too bad.  The mobile to mobile minutes
SHOULD HAVE BEEN nation wide all along!  -Dave

"Same calling area" doesn't mean the same building!  My wife and I use
our phones for coordinating restaurant/grocery plans on the way home
from work, kid pickups from school, etc.  We use a lot more airtime
talking to each other when we're both "home" than if one of us is away
(we've been married 10 years.  How long does a nightly "I miss you,
how're the kids, see you soon" take?)

I guess it depends on where the calling area ends.  We happen to live a few
minutes from a state border.  My wife spends most of her time on the OTHER
side of the border.  Thus, we spend most of our time in different calling
areas, according to Cingular.  We ALMOST bought the mobile to mobile
minutes, until we learned that they only applied (so we were told) to our
"home" calling area.  My wife is almost never in our "home" calling area,
and my work takes me out of it at least 3 days per week.  If we had mobile
to mobile minutes, most of our mobile to mobile calls would eat up "anytime"
minutes anyway.  -Dave

That should be resolved Feb. 1 if you want to switch plans. From what I
understand, all 39.99 and higher plans starting Feb. 1 will include 1000 m2m
minutes that will work NATIONALLY on Cingular's network. I cannot confirm
this, but it did come from a very strong source.

Wow, skipping over the old 16.99 plan straight to an even more expensive
one.

Ack.  I am currently stuck in a 2-year contract with Verizon, and was
hoping they might match Cingular's $9.99 price for family plan lines

Nope. Cingular matched Verizon's and Sprint's $19.99/$20 rate.
