I am having a helluva time bringing all the pieces I need together to
get this working so I'm hoping someone here can potentially offer any
insight.

I am trying to dial to Earthlink from my Palm T3 using my Siemens S56
(which is on the NationGSM plan with Wireless Internet $0.00 pay per
use, it's apparently a new price option for Wireless Intnernet as of
this week).
Anyway, I have a couple of issues.  Trying to get the T3 to dial an
ISP (so to burn my minutes and not use the /kb Cingular plan) using
the SiemensS56 driver provided by Palm only causes the phone to try to
call then hang up right away.  If I use the GenericGSM driver I can
establish a DATA connect and apparently a GPRS connection (the GPRS
icon flashes on phone while conneced), but, when trying to login to
the ISP I am constatnly getting a CHAP authentication reject.  I have
tried 2 ISP's (Earthlink & RoadRunner dialup) and get the CHAP Rejects
on both.   So one theory I have is that something in the INIT String
for the S56 modem the Palm is using is not quite right and is not
sending the login correctly.  I have found at least one reference that
the S56 does not use standard Hayes AT commands.

So Cingular wasn't able to help at all by providing me any detailed
info on the phone they sold to me.   Siemens won't return my emails.
Palm is no help.  And the ISP's only support Windows or Mac(maybe).  I
appologize if this is the wrong place to ask this, but hopefully
someone  has tried something similar and been sucessful.

Why are you doing CHAP?
Try PAP.
