Cingular WAP browsing and Sony Ericsson

I've noticed (and another person has reported) that I cannot access SE's
WAP site (www.sonyericsson.com/fun or wap.sonyericsson.com) from my Z600
(or other WAP-only) phones.  This is a relatively recent development and
I can still access all my other web sites.

I'm wondering if anyone can confirm this on their WAP-only phone.  On my
P900, I can access GPRS direct (not through a WAP gateway) and it works
fine.

If you are the same one that recently posted in the Howardforums with the
problem, I am sorry for the redundancy, but I too have the problem
(Hierophant on HoFo) with my T616.

Only a few people have responded in the forum.  But it DOES seem as if
someone (not the enduser) changed something.

Fortunately, this is low-priority but it's nice to have things "working
as advertised."  Perhaps someone here will know something that we don't.
:-)  Likely, I think.

Testing with my Ericsson T39m, I can get to www.sonyericsson.com though the
free Genie WAP Gateway (193.113.200.195), but not through the Cingular WAP
Gateway, so something was apparently changed by Cingular to cause the problem.

John,

I really appreciate your confirming this.

I have posted this question on a few forums looking for answers to
this problem also. I have also been in contact with SE & Cingular's
tech support only to find SE referring me back to Cingular. Cingular
said to add it as a bookmark at MyWirelessWindow.com and access it
from there. That doesn't work. I have asked a few ATT & T-mobile users
who use T616/610s to try it & they can access it with no problem. I
can verify that because as of a few weeks ago, I had a T610 from
T-mobile & had no problem accessing the site.

That's probably due to different versions of WAP support in different phones.
Frankly, WAP is a mess.

Sheri, I tried the Genie gateway that John provided.  It works like a
charm.  Mostly, I was curious as to why it stopped working thru
Cingular's gateway -- they must've changed something -- either on
purpose or not.  The truth is, there's little on the SE site that I care
about.

So I set up two wap sections on my Z600 (pretty much the same deal with
the T6xx series.  If I need to hit the SE site, I just switch to that
gateway.  I could just keep it set that way but now and then I like to
hit Cingular's WAP version of mywirelesswindow and, for that, I need to
use Cingular's gateway.

I just wonder what or why Cingular changed to cause this to happen.  But
it's good to know that the "workaround" works.

Wow! Thanks for the info. I accidentally deleted Honey Cave & so
desperately wanted it back! Thanks! Now,.... is it "legal" to use this
Genie thingy?? I'm assuming we would still have to pay for the data
usage, correct??

To the best of my limited understanding, you're paying for either
connect time, if you use CSD dial-up and the KBs transferred if you're
using GPRS.  I don't believe the WAP gateway would affect that at all.

John seemed to suggest that Genie was a "free gateway" so I'm assuming
it's okay.  If it's not okay, I promise, I won't tell on you.  :)
