Marion - 08 Aug 2004 23:20 GMT I went by the local office to pay my bill. They would not accept payment for my bill unless I paid a $2 fee. This was Cingular not Joe's Cellphone.
Ralph Blach - 08 Aug 2004 23:55 GMT Marion,
Huuu, what was the fee for????
1) take cash. it has that phrase, good for all debts public and private. 2)Be sure you video tape it. 3)If they refuse to take cash, you do NOT have to pay the bill. 4)I have never seen a Cingular store charge a fee.

Cingular is now charging $2 to pay a live person in the store. If you use the automated paystation in the store it's free.

Ralph Blach - 09 Aug 2004 14:31 GMT I personally think this is outrageous.

AWS won't take it at all. In our area the only place to make a payment in person is a gas station, and yes they charge you to. I take it back, you can also pay at Western Union for a fee.

I agree, you need to get into the 21st century and pay by check (cheque) or debit card.

I have had this phone number for three years, and I have paid by mail for the first year, and online ever since I figured out that you could. Welcome to the new millenium, ya luddites!

I've always paid online, but I decided to try the new free number that Cingular sent to me via SMS (3 times in one afternoon). *729 from my phone. They ask for your 10 digit phone number and a couple of other things, then give you a confirmation number after the transaction is complete. Faster than online and just as effective. I'll use it from now on. -- Jack
Jeff Hansman - 10 Aug 2004 00:50 GMT Yeah, I gotta agree. Online payment is how it's done now, and I personally have not written a check for over a year. It still seems dumb that they charge to take payment, however.

Guess what buddy, I used a debit card!!!!!! As for the comment above you. I'm sorry that you are having a bad day. I have those periodically. those days are usually caused by people that are looking for something. I guess I just to get a, what kind of, checking account. Who offers them? Is this like a sexual account? I guess if I was a looser I could not get one, therefore I would have to pay cash, use a debit or credit card. If I was a looser then I probably would not even have cash.
Ryan - 11 Aug 2004 02:18 GMT I use the onine bill paying through my bank (well credit union) It send everyting electronically and if it can't it sends a check. I set up most of my payments to go automatically. It more than pays for itself by avoiding late fees. And it's a one stop website to pay all my bills.

Perhaps best of all, if your CU is like mine, the payment that Cingular receives comes from a third party payment processing company; your checking account and routing transit numbers do not appear on the check, so Cingular can't "accidentally" double-dip your checking account when processing your payment.

Ryan - 11 Aug 2004 03:31 GMT Thats how mine works The check actually comes from the credit unions processor.

Excellent point. Hadn't thought of that. I always use my credit card for my automatic bill pay for this double dip reason.
WAW - 09 Aug 2004 16:53 GMT I went by the local office to pay my bill. They would not accept payment for my bill unless I paid a $2 fee. This was (___) not Joe's (___).
Insert: gas company, electric company, cable company, landline telephone company, satellite TV provider, water company, department of licensing, etc.
I wonder how these guys stay in business!? And good luck getting out of paying your bill because you walk in with a video camera. You have free bill-payment options, if you choose not to use them, you choose not to use their service. Go to the supermarket and get a $0.25 money order, for chrissakes.

On to other stuff

Why not mail a check or money order? A Cingular store isn't necessarily a payment center, any more than a PG&E service truck is necessarily a PG&E payment center.
