Alright,
I'm new to this site, so bear with me.  I would like to get a camera
phone to use.  I'm stuck in a contract with cingular for 11 more months.
Is there anything I can do?  Is cingular planning on adding some camera
phones to their arsenal anytime soon? Help me out here guys!

I did some looking and I saw on the list of available phones by cingular
that they do carry one or two camera phones, but they don't show up for
my zip code.  I live in downtown Atlanta, and I find it hard to believe
that they do not service such a large city with these phones?  What
gives?

Sorry, no one makes a TDMA camera phone, wait until this fall when
Cingular goes GSM, you will see the Nokia 3600, a few Sony Ericssons,
and the Siemens S46 camera phones pop up in the local retail outlets!

Atlanta is a GSM 800 area.  Most of the new camera phones are for GSM
1900 or for GSM 900/1800 and 1900 with 1900 being the only North
American frequency supported.

My personal opinion (being a photographer and Cingular subcriber). I
would try the Nokia one first. It was on the news in my area that
Sony/Ericsson was laying off 700 people in the begining of an effort
to phase out thier mobile phone division. That makes me a little
causious about buying an Ericsson phone. Plus I have seen the Nokias.
They work credibly well. If I am not mistaken Samsung also makes one
that has the ability to add a CF card for more storage. Keep in mind
they are a phone first of all so the photo quality will not be all
that good, but for being a phone I was surprised by the quality it
does give.

Just my two cents though.

If you should purchase a phone from someone other than Cingular and have them
activate it.  This is an option  and it doesn't affect your contract.

Davin,

The latest GSM coverage maps that we have here show Atlanta as "Future
Coverage". This is the same thing as the maps said about upstate NY a couple
weeks ago and that sytem is already up and running, AFAIK. Also in the same
category is Arkansas and Missouri. If you're looking for a camera phone,
check with somebody that already has an Ericsson before you buy. The camera
seems to be ok, but I'm not real impressed with either the T306 or the T316.
Maybe they are good cameras, but they don't seem to work even close to a
Nokia or a Motorola as a phone. We are playing with a Siemens S56 right now.
I'll let you know how it works in about a month.
Mark
