I may be answering my own question here.  My wife's 1400 locked up for
some reason, couldn't even turn it off, so I took the battery out for a
second or two and put it back in.  Fixed the phone, but all the names and
numbers dissappeared.  She was not a happy camper.

I read in the manual that one could save to simcard.  Also read one could
copy numbers to simcard.  First I tried copying my numbers from phone to
simcard.  It copies up to 28 my total numbers, then says failed.  But
when I look at my contacts the originals are there plus the sim card
ones, which aren't organized by mobile, home, etc.

Is there a way to remedy this situation on both phones so that the
numbers won't be lost next change of battery?  Is it to initially store
the contact information on the simcard instead of the phone?

Also phooey on LG for not putting in a teenie capacitor to at least keep
memory for a minute or two.

I had a similar problem with an LG camera phone once.  For some reason
or another, we had to take the battery out and the phone was still on.
When we turned the phone on again, all the pictures on the phone were
scrambled.  We tried all kinds of things, and then gave up.  After we
tested it again to see if the camera would still be functional, we set
the first picture we took as background and the all the other pictures
came back!  Maybe if you add a new contact it might do the same thing?
