bbbbzzzzzztttttt........wrong answer.
Cingular 64K SIM's are currently market specific. Non-market specific SIM's
will be available sometime in April.

Old SIM's cannot be re-activated. There are lots of new SIM's on eBay
though.

Interesting. My 3 month old phone w/ a new 64k sim works cross-country just
as it did with my old 32k sim

Your SIM can be used nationwide however, your particular SIM could not be
activated nationwide. The first 5 digits of the SIM determine the market
that a SIM can be activated in.
Sorry I wasn't clear.

Why the 6 month delay since the merger? Navas always said integration
was easy.

This was done intentionally. Unfortunately it did not work as intended.

Please explain how Cingular screwed up.

I think something is starting to dawn on my from the context of various threads
here.
Try this:
"There's nothing burned into a SIM that is 'me-specific'. No provider account
number, no telephone number. The link between me, the SIM, and my provider is
in the provider's DB that has the SIM number and my account number linked".
Does this sound right?

I have 2 old Cingular SIMs, and when I put them into a GSM phone, as
soon as I turn it on, it still shows "My number". However, I think that
is easily changeable, as people can keep the same SIM after changing
phone numbers.

Do you mean regionally or actually market specific (RSA/MSA)? Is there
any truth to the regions and the 310-410/310-370/310-150 (along with AWS
310-380) rumors?

Market specific as in the region. Central market is the largest and covers
Texas to Michigan, next is Eastern, Gulf market, and so on. Each has
specific SIM #'s attached and then they are broken down even further into
areas such as Austin numbers, Dallas, Little Rock, etc, etc..
To the second part, the reason they are coded that way is because Cingular
is actually a mish-mash of merged companies.
