I'm a ATTWS customer who is going to switch from an ATT TDMA phone to a
Cingular GSM.
From others experience, is it "better" to purchase from Cingular's:
retail store, customer service by phone, or cingular.com?
Thanks.

What do you mean by "better"? I got a good deal from Best Buy with only
a 1 year contract whereas I would have had to sign up for 2 with
Cingular. Pricing for the phone was the same if I remember correctly.
Cingular.com wanted less money for the phone than the calling customer
service but limited you to signing a 2 year contract at the time.
I'm not sure about the retail store other than you don't have to wait
for delivery.

What do you mean by "good deal"? Plan costs no matter where you purchase
from would cost the same. Did you get a better phone from Best Buy that you
could have gotten from Cingular? Would Best Buy bring a phone number over
from another carrier for free? Where you able to walk out of the store with
a working phone?

OP responding to question as to what I meant by "better."
I did not define because I'm not sure of all the factors.
But I was thinking of factors such as:
overall customer service,
ease of number transfer,
ease of phone return/exchange if needed,
and price.
Thanks for any tips.

Thanks Norm but my reply was to compulady, I was curious what her experience
was with Best Buy.

I prefer Cingular.com
Back in July I got my v400 for $68.00. That was alot less than Best Buy or
anywhere. Then in a few days the price went up to over $150
But it is true that Cingular.com wants a 2 year contract. But who cares,
that is pretty much standard and after a number of months go by it will not
cost you too much (prorated) to get out of the contract if you need to.
Go ahead and check YES for Do you need a new sim card. They did not charge
me for the sim card when I upgraded to v551. I figured I would want a new
64k sim with the new phone.
