Me and my fiancee both have a Motorola V551 with Cingular service.
Both are only about a month and a half old. I just took a trip from
Denver to Los Angeles (LAX) on Thursday. Shortly after I went through
security in Denver I tried to turn on my phone but only got the
message "Check SIM" on my phone. I figured it was a coincidence that
it happened while going through security. Well yesterday coming back
from LAX to Denver now my fiancee's phone doesn't work. It did work
for a couple minutes after going through security though but then
failed. I know I had mine off going through security. She said she
thinks hers was on. Hers said "Insert SIM". It just seems too much
of a coincidence and seems it has to do with the airport xray
equipment since we had to pass it through that. Otherwise the alarms
went off. I went to a Cingular store today and got both SIMs replaced
and the lady had never heard of this happening. Is it any chance that
this is what caused that or is it a big coincidence? I have wondered
if they were maybe a new type of SIM or a bad batch since you would
think there would be warnings about this if it was a big problem.

I just took a trip last week and passed through security without any
damage to my Cingular SIM.

My phones have gone through more airport baggage scanning systems than I
can count on hands and feet ten times over - no worries here.

Well, I sorta thought that was implied, but yup, sure do.

Earlier this season I travelled to the Caribbean with my V551, and had no
issues resulting from going through airport security scanners.

I'm a Flight Attendant, and I have the V551. No probelms at all. My
phone has passed through the xray machines probably 200 times since I
bought it in December, and not one problem like the one you mentioned.
It has to be something else. Something physical that could jar the sim
loose. Maybe the SIMs were not installed correctly in the first place,
and it's a mere coinsidence that they did this on your trip.
