Why does waptunnel suck so bad?

I have a hard time getting ANY sites to work on waptunnel.
Dictionary.com, yahoo.com, movietickets.com, mapquest.com.. RARELY
work.

My question is: ok we can agree that waptunnel blows. WHY does it
work so poorly? network overload? buggy programming? being blocked?
WHY? What is the specific problem(s)?

Yes, the free wap tunnel can be picky and fickle but as my dad would
say: "what do you want for free...blood".

I have been having trouble getting into Yahoo. Guess if I want
better wap access I'll have to pay the extra $4.99.

I'm using a Palm Pilot connected to my Audiovox CDM-9155 on a Verizon
AC plan-works much better than the wap tunnel.

Riiiight I figured I'd get a bunch of replies saying "Hey it's a free
service what do you expect" but that's not what I'm asking about.

I'm asking WHY does the service suck? WHY. What specific things make
waptunnel work so poorly?

It would be my guess that Cingular isn't allocating resources to
Waptunnel due to the lack of support from the billing dept. OTOH, a
sucky Waptunnel makes their other offerings seem much more plausible -
maybe even more affordable. If Cingular made Waptunnel work well
despite the costs, one would be less likely to actually pay for
anything better. So, yes, it is as it should be, you get what you pay
for.

Cingular wouldn't seem to have anything to do with it.

What phone are you using and what setting did you use? I was trying to set
my 6340i up on the Waptunnel, but was told that Cingular blocked it. So it
may not be the fact of "What do you want? It's free", but instead a matter
of "Hey, Cingular does not want to throw money away, so they blocked 3rd
party services that cost less than theirs."

What are the settings you used. I will try it myself and let you konw.

No, Cingular just has different services. Wireless Internet and Wireless
Internet Express are limited to Cingular's own WAP gateway, but with general
Internet access (e.g., ISP.Cingular), you can use any WAP gateway you want.
