I am not currently a Cingular customer, and have a question about GAIT
phones - specifically the 6340i.

Is is possible with this phone to 'scan' to see what TDMA/GSM
providers are available in a particular area?  i.e. in a given area
can I query the phone to see what providers are offering service on
TMDA or GSM850/1900?

Thanks much,
Kevin O

Download the manual.

There are 3 options on the phone:

NETWORK SELECTION
----------------------------
Automatic-The phone selects a network automatically.
Manual-The phone searches for available networks and displays a list of
operator names and codes. Select a network from the list.
New search-The phone begins a new search for available systems. When it
finds the best system available, the phone shows the system name.

Sorry, Cingular disabled the Network Selection on each 6340i before they
sold them.  All Networks Selections are done automatically according to
the IRDB in the phone.

That feature is disabled by Cingular. Automatic is the only option available
in a Cingular locked 6340i.

Yes.  Cingular somehow blocks it and it is unavailable when you use Cingular
service.

However, I put another carriers SIM into a UNLOCKED 6340i and there it
was....Network Selection.  I then had it scan manually and it worked very
well.  It said Voicestream and AT&T was available.  Nice =)

Wish there was someway aroung Cingular's block.

The Network Selection features have been disabled by Cingular. In a Cingular
locked 6340i Automatic is the only option.
