My new phone keeps charging. Now on occassion I have like touched a
button after like four hours so I may have interrupted it. But it
never seems to finish charging. I unplug it when I go away.  Reminds
me of the battery memory problems on my 1990 "brick" phone.  Should I
ask them to replace the battery?

Apparently a feature. It never shows "Charging Complete".
