I personally own a V551 and use Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools along
with bluethooth dongle from Kensingtion and the software that came
with that... You can also use a USB cable (which I also have). There
are advantages and disadvantages to both combos.. They all do basic
stuff like uploading and downloading ringtones, pics, and video (if
applicable). Some of the other advantages to these are:
Mobile Phone Tools Software
Has a nicer interface for working on calendar and address book.
Comes with some editing software to edit ringtones, pics, and vids
Bluetooth Software
Can upload games and java stuff using a PUSH technology which
usually comes with most Bluetooth dongles software. This,
compared to having to email to yourself or grab it from a
webpage, which usually incurs costs..
USB Cable
Can do some REAL editing and hacking on your phone which
you can't reliably do with bluetooth dongles. Albeit a bit
risky, I haven't had a problem yet. Must use 3rd party software.
Stuff uploads and dowloads a little faster than with BT.
Bluetooth Dongle
No need to physically connect your phone to the PC , if it is within
50 feet of your PC you can do all the viewing, uploading,
downloading of your multimedia to your phone from yur
PC. And you can update your calendar of events wirelessly
as well...
I, of course, use various combos depending on what I need to get done,
but my day-to-day combo is the BT dongle and MPT software as I really
rely on my phone calendar to remind me of daily events and tasks and I
don;t have to fiddle with plugging my phone into the USB cable, etc.
As long as my phone is in the house, I can pretty well reach it
wirelessly.

I saw Ernest's post , and he pretty much said it all.
I purchased MPT and have both the USB cable and bluetooth.
They each have their strengths and weaknesses, but both
generally work ok.
