Have your dad sign up for Cingular Voice Connect. It allows unlimited names to be added to the web site and all you have to do is press *8 and then say, John Jones at home, or John Jones at work, or John Jones on his cell phone. The service costs only $4.99 per month and it works great.
I am looking for a recommendation for a new cell phone. It needs to be one that has the voice dial feature and it stores more the 5 names. My dad bought a Motorola V180 and was told it has the voice dial feature. What we did not know until it was too late that the phone would only store 5 names. This will not work for my dad. He needs a phone where he can store at lease 13 names. Any suggestion?
Thanks

I would hate to pay $4.99 per month for a feature that is better
handled for free by my phone. And if voice dialing is handled by
the phone provider, it would probably take extra air time. Like
some of the other screwball convenience features that cellular
providers push, this one seems to be a good deal mostly for them.

You are right it does take extra time, about 3 to 4 seconds per call. I
have the new BlackBerry (7100g) and it along with all other BlackBerry
models does not offer voice dial. One of the best feature that Voice
Connect offers is that my Outlook Address Book can be synced to their web
site in a matter of 15 to 20 seconds. I use my phone for work and have over
a 1000 contacts in Outlook. I sync it every day and know that every contact
is available. Additionally, it recognizes the voice commands without any
"training" and the voice recognition is great. For me $4.99 per month is
not a deal breaker.

As with some of the other extra-cost cellular features that I referred to
as "screwball", I'm sure there are a few people out there for whom this
is just the ticket, but I still think they are very much in the minority.
