Is there any class action going on against Cingular for charging $18 if you
upgrade to a newer phone because you singed up with AT+T ?

That has nothing to do with it.  A year ago if an existing AWS customer
wanted to buy a new phone from them they were charged the exact same $18
fee.  It is a common practice among cell carriers to add this type of
charge.  Again, it has absolutely nothing to do with the Cingular take over.

I may add that when an existing Cingular upgrades his phone after his
contract expires, he will also be charged $18 upgrade/processing fee.

That is why THIS former ATTWS now Cingular customer is going to switch out
of Cingular when his TDMA service is turned off.  I will not reward them
with my continued business if they try to take advantage of me.

It may be a frivilous way of making a statement, but that is the only power
I have over them.

Screw Cingular, and screw their $18.00 fee!

Not sure who you plan to use as your new carrier, but you're going t
pay an activation charge with your new carrier, probably around $35.
I'm not really sure what your point is, when every carrier charge
activation charges, you're going to pay an activation charge somewhere

I have found that when you call and complain enough, they will waive that
fee. I also got them to add 300 bonus minutes (ATT) by just selecting i want
to cancel service in the phone idiot system. I called selected that option
and said i wanted the bonus minutes and now they are on@
