Sorry, I guess I haven't kept up with the latest fashion trends :). I upgraded my phone today (to a Seimens SX66) in a Cingular store. The rep deactivated my old SIM and gave me a new 64K unit. He said I needed it in order to access both Cingular and (former) AT&T cell towers. Of course, he also said my new phone would not work with my Media Works package and that I had to switch to a "PDA Data Plan" at twice the price, which turned out to be untrue, so clearly he's not as fully informed as he thinks. ;) So what's the real scoop? Your SX66 may very well work with the package you have but you are supposed to have the PDA plan. Hopefully you have gotten your 1st bill to verify you are correct for billing purposes also or you could be in for a VERY VERY MAJOR surprise when you get the bill. There is also nothing that I can see in the legal agreement that would prohibit using the $24.00 Unlimited Plan tethered to a PDA or PC. Cheers TC Two PDA plans are: PDA 5 MB PDR1 $29.99 PDA UNLTD PDR2 $39.99 (vertually everyone gets the unlimited for $39.99) There is also a deadicated Blackberry plan (I don't have the exact name or price for it) I'm sure customer care can tell you. As for the legal stuff, I'll stay away from that, let the lawyers fight over it. The thing that caught my attention here is "MEdia Net is not equivalent to landline Internet. Only select sites accessible through a mobile connection are available. You are restricted from using a home page other than the Cingular home page." With a tethered connection, you can access any site, but according to the above, you can only access select sites - read WAP. I called Cingular sales regarding this, and they were basically clueless. It's unfortunate that so few employees at Cingular really know what their own policies are. :( Note also the following: "If you switch your phone connection from GPRS to a Circuit-Switch Data connection, you will be billed airtime in one-minute increments as provided by your rate plan." With a tethered connection, it is my understanding that you will be using a CSD or Circuit-Switch Data connection. Since with this you are billed airtime, you are using your voice call minutes. Anybody out there have a GPRS connection using a tethered phone on a MEdia Net package? Megabytes can rack up > very quickly on a tethered connection. Yes it is possible and I know from personal experience. I can tether my phone to my Palm and download emails to the Palm. As for "don't ask, don't tell" as I stated there are no terms in the agreement that prohibit tethering the phone to a PDA or laptop. That doesn't necessarily mean that Cingular likes you using it tethered but they certainly (at this time) don't prohibit it. Of course if they don't want me to do that I can always cancel my MediaNet service and that will be $19.99/mo less revenue for Cingular. My first bill was very high ($400+) due to data use...even though I had a 5mb plan. None of the MB's were used, and every byte was billed. After a call the rep said I was on the wrong data plan and being double billed. A credit was issued, and now I am on yet another 5mb plan. On the web-site it lists "Media Basic Package - $9.99" and "Data Access 5mb - $19.99". Does this cound correct? Are there other options for a Treo user, such as an unlimited plan? Thanks!
