Thanks. I have signed up with Beyond Wireless. Unfortunately, the AT&T TDMA
reception is poor in my area. My phones are Nokia 5165 and Motorola
V60t. Should I try another phone such as Nokia 8260?

Those are good phones.  If you cannot get good reception with those
it's unlikely that you're going to get appreciably better with another
such as the 8260.

Given the limited coverage by each cell phone tower, I'm not sure what
one means by "poor in my area".  I get poor reception in my house,
about 1 bar on the Nokia scale, but if I walk outside, it goes up to 2
to 3 bars.  A quarter mile from my house, I get all four bars.  Inside
Kohl's, 1 bar if I'm lucky; outside, 3 bars.  Overall, coverage is
good, but there are some weak spots.  What I consider "poor" is areas
where the phone says "extended area" or "roam", and I am paying 4 times
the regular rate.  But these areas are well defined on the Beyond
Wireless coverage map.

Agreed.

In my case, "poor" also means "extended area" or "roam". However, according
to Beyond Wireless, my area should be well covered.

Back a few years ago when I was on AT&T, the Panasonic Versio had 1-2
bars better reception than most other AT&T phones.  It looks like it is
still available on beyond's web site.
