Uncle Dannie, I wouldn't change to Cingular just because of a phone price.
How "odd" you followed the links to the web site, but did not "click" on the
rebate coupons which gives you full disclosure! The Treo is listed under
both Verizon $199 & Cingular $324.99 with a new 2 yr activation, so I don't
know where you were looking? The short anwer to your question:
a) stay with Verizon,
b) when you are within 2 months of contract end, you should qualify for a
New Every Two if you
c) extend (re-new) your contract. That would give you
d) $100 off the 2 yr price, as well as get you any
e) applicable rebates.
Don't change carriers to get the discounted phone! Change carriers because
of quality, price & service. dr
Longer Explanation:(links removed from reply)
1) Treo 650 with a NEW line of Verizon service, my Treo 650 is $199.99 after
rebates. Cingular has different rebates, $324.99 is what I see. Both for 2
yr NEW contracts, (not upgrades/ not renewals)
2) Loyalty means loyalty to your new contract thru us/me, and has nothing to
do with being a prior customer. You stay loyal for at least 181 days (after
all, it is a 2 yr contract), you get more money back.
(maybe someone else will explain why the 180 period is so critical)
Now, what would I do? I told you above in a-e. You said your contract was
up in a couple of months? Couple usually means 2. You should be eligible
now for a New Every Two, subject to Verizon's t&Cs. Can't wait, call them
and "grovel", and they may offer it to you early. But $519 seems a bit
high, you'd do better on ebay.
Another thought, but only if you are having problems with your phone.
Verizon "seems" to have a 3 strike rule. If you had been having problems
with the Treo 600, and had exchanged it 3 times or more, there is a
possibility they would "move" you to a different phone either for free, or
if you pay the difference. That is what I've heard.
Oh yeah, Those coupons that you couldn't find the detail for are below. You
should have clicked on the coupon link and they would have been explained.
We call that full-disclosure.
