I'm not in a UMTS area but I'm just curious if people need new phones to
take advantage of UMTS or if it works with their existing phones.

Also anyone have any idea when Cingular might have a PDA that at least is
Edge Enabled if not UMTS?  I want to get a PDA/Phone but all they offer in
the pocket pc variety is the Siemens SX66.  When are they going to start
offering something faster?

Cingular has a very limited UMTS footprint at this point however they
expect to have the UMTS service footprint much bigger by the end of the
year,  with that being said if you are not in a UMTS area a UMTS phone
will do you no good.  Also you WILL NEED a UMTS phone in order to take
advantage of the speeds.  I'm in the Phoenix market and it's limited to
downtown Phoenix mostly with a little coverage in Tempe but the are
putting in 155 new towers this year all 850 and I'm assuming they will
be transitioning their data to the 1900 freq since that's all ATT had
in this market.

As for the PDA with Edge look on Phonescoop.com they just annouced the
RAZR pda that will be EDGE capable however Cingular has not signed
anything to sell it.  I've played with the SX66 and don't really
recommend it.  I felt the voice reception was lousy.  I haven't found a
GSM Siemens phone that I've been happy with on Voice reception yet to
date.

Wow that Motorola looks perfect.  I think I will have a little patience &
wait.  I haven't exactly heard great things about the Siemens anyways...
