V3 Ear Piece volume

I am new to Cingular GSM and also got a new V3; in fact I have a couple of
family members so I have three new motorola V3 phones all running on the
Cingular GSM.

My question is about the ear piece volume. Even at the highest volume on
any of these phones, it's only about half as loud as on any of my previous
cell phones. In a semi-noisy room or out on the street with traffic about
it many times becomes almost impossible to hear what the other person is
saying on the phone.

Is there anybody here who has successfully found a way to increase the ear
piece volume? Is there some software upgrade I don't know about? I see
this problem mentioned on the V3 all over the web too. I am beyond the 30
day return policy so I cannot return the phone now, but every time I use it,
I don't feel good about it so what's the point of it all?

Suggestions?

Are you talking about the ear piece that is inside the phone or a
corded ear bud or a Bluetooth headset?

If you are having trouble hearing in a noisy room or situation I would
suggest using a Bluetooth headset since you can crank up the volume on
the headset as well as the phone. If it's just inside of your phone
and you've turned up the volume then you are pretty much out of luck if
it's not loud enough for you. Although you could put it on speaker
phone but then everyone around you would hear the conversation as well.

I've had the same problem - it's very disappointing. I have 4 days left
before my 30 days is up, so I need to act now.

you can turn up all volumes by editing the gain table or using one o
the p2ks or motokit

Thanks for the info. I've never hacked a cell phone before, but I'm
willing to learn to get this problem fixed b/c I want to keep the phone.
Guess I'll go buy the USB cable and give it a try.

It's well worth the time & effort, use caution tho, don't turn the speaker
volume up over 5 (1 is the default) or you might zap your speaker. I left my
speaker phone set @ 1 also. I originally set it @ 3 and it was too loud and
sounded distorted. Coud've been my speaker. You can see what works best for
you.

I'd rather have my earpiece level set high and turn it down with the volume
control, then you have some reserve if needed.

I wouldn't go over 4 if it was me. You will need a cable and either on
of the p2k programs or motokit, which is the easiest. You can also edi
the gain table if you know seem editing, but it sounds like you don't

Set it on 5 and turn the volume down with the volume control and have some
reserve for high noise enviornments.

ive got mine set to 4 and turned down to 5 or 6 on the phone. an
higher and you start getting distortion. One thing i learned when
first got the phone is it makes a uge difference how you hold it t
your ear. Probably due to the fact the the speaker is so high up o
the flip. If you hold it like a phone with the speaker in the middl
of the earpiece, it puts the speaker too far up on your ear. I had t
learn to hold the top of the flip even with the middle of my ear. I
makes a major difference

I just tried to edit the volume settings on my daughter's V220, all the
values are set at 8 now. I guess the volume can't be turned up on this
phone. Has anyone seen this before?
