I was reading the newspaper today and came across a Cingular ad for
500 anytime minutes and 5000 N/W minutes for $39.99 per month with
Rollover and No Roaming.  When I signed up, I went with the 350
anytime/5000 N/W minutes for $39.99.  Could I upgrade to this new plan
if I wanted to?

Probably, and don't be surprised if you incur another 2 year obligation...

If you are not under contract and they try that, then tell them that is
unacceptable.  If they refuse to let you go month-to-month, then cancel
service.

Make sure that you don't get stuck with a new contract. Especially with
number portablilty coming up. I don't expect to move my number but I do
expect that the wireless companies will come up with some good deals to
try and keep people from leaving. If they are smart enough to realize
that it's better to keep a customer than try to get a new one.

I went to my local Cingular store today and asked about this offer.  I
showed them the newspaper ad and they explained to me that the 500
anytime minutes and 5000 N/W minutes deal is for GSM users only.  When
I heard it was GSM and saw the coverage map, I decided I could go
without the extra minutes and stuck with my current plan.

You can change your plan as many times as you want to within the first
year.

That plan is good in GSM markets, not sure about the others...
