BlankOK Cingular tells me that I had no contact with ATT so I can drop my Cingular service at any time with no penalty.

I've been satisfied with Cingular but have been using my old Nokia 6160 because it fit into a cradle in my car.  The car is history and I'm ready to upgrade.  I go on line to order a new phone and am referred to a phone number because I enjoy a discount as the employee of a large high tech company.

I called Cingular and a pleasant lady says OK but I have to get my own instrument because at present they don't have the TREO 650 I want.  I go on line and find that I can pick one up at Firewire.com on a 2 year Cingular contract for $279 after rebates.  At PalmOne's MyTreo.com site the price after rebates on a similar contract is $179.  I go into a Cingular store and they want $399.  What gives?

I understand that I can't port my current cell phone number if I buy from Firwire or MyTreo but that feature is not worth $200+ plus to me.  Is there so other aspect of this transaction I'm missing?

I'm a newbie at this so any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Cliff

Different sellers have different prices, just like for other goods.

Your car quit working so it's time to get a new phone?

Cingular has good coverage but the worst customer I have ever
experienced.
You will find that ATT to Cingular was no upgrade.
T-Mobile is pretty good, given them a try

Not really.  Calls on the fully charged NOKIA began to fade out without
warning and the instrument got into the habit of suddenly discharging.
Except in the most advantageous light, the display was unreadable. Moreover
my work changed creating the need for a PDA and I wasn't up for lugging
arround a PDA, cellphone.

Cliff.
