Thanks for the reply. So you are saying that if I buy an unlocke
phone on eBay say that is Triband GSM 900/1800/1900 it will work bu
the signal may not be as strong as if I was buying a Cingular unlocke
phone that was operating on a quad-band/850 frequency

You may be able to get by with a 1900 only handset since AT&T Wireless
who cingular took over ran 1900 in all their markets. However, for
optimum performance it's best to have a handset that is capable of 850
and 1900.

It's more a matter of coverage than of signal quality.
