It didn't recognize it. Through USB protocol, Windows asked for an
identifying string, and it responded with text that you recognized. It
didn't find a match.

I use Mobile Phone Tools for my Cingular Motorola V551.
Downloaded Version 3.11. $29.95
http://www.bvrp.com/customers/motorola/upgrade/US/
$8.99 from shopoem.com
This will sync the phonebook and Calendar with Outlook, or a standalone
BVRP database.
> Is there anything available for free?
The V551 also has Bluetooth ability. If you have a Bluetooth dongle for
your Windows XP PC, the built in drivers will let you copy pictures.
You can also manage contacts one at a time.

Where did you get the cable? Did it come with any software?

I got the cable at a local store called the wireless store. It did not
come with any software. The guy at the store said I could purchase
some software online but I was hoping I could get it to work without
buying any software.
I'm not sure if this pc has bluetooth. I don't really know anything
about bluetooth yet. It requires some hardware if I'm not mistaken. I
don't think this pc I purchased has anything like that.
Thanks for the tips.

I purchased a cable from shopoem.com. It came with a CD "Mobile Phone
Tools" Version 3.0 dated 2004.
The software installed fine, but either the computer or the software
is not seeing the phone when connected. I don't get the little blurb
when I plug it in, and nothing seems to transfer to it.
The phone is a v551. Is ttere a more recent version of the software
available? Is it downloadable?
Anybody know of anything else I need to do to get the computer to see
the phone?
Thanks in advance.

Don't think the connection is there. If I wiggle the connector at the
base of the phone, it will make & break the connection constantley.
Took the little rubber band off of the connector end per shopoem.com
but it didn't help. Sending the cable back for replacement, if the new
one is the same then it indicates a bad connector on the phone.
If I run the software & click on update, it just comes back with a
message that says it cannot find www.bvrp.com/customers/motorola/
Thanks, we'll see what happens in a few days.
