1700 mAH Li-Polymer. This is the Vxx version of the Maxxcell battery that
some of the V3 owners have been playing with.

There was an update to the V551 firmware to extend battery life.
I generally charge mine very third day.

On my Cingular V551, Settings-Phone Status-Other Information you can
see the firmware version.  Mine is R472_G_08.18.16R_0A.

I charge nearly every day, but when I tether my PDA, it drains faster.
And I don't trust the battery indicator.  I just have the charger
next to my bed, and charge it overnight.

The stock battery indicator seems pretty sad.  It shows three cells for far
too long, then two for a short period of time...  one cell needs a charge.
You can see a six block meter with settings-phone status-battery meter.

If you use Mobile Phone Tools, F12 exposes the modem transactions.
Included in there is a line with
" SignalStrength 15 ** BatteryLevel 20 ** GPRS attached: NO"
but I don't know what the range or granularity of that is.
You should be able to retrieve it with an ATDT string to the modem outside
of MPT, but I haven't tried to determine what it is.
