Hi,
I am thinking about switching from TMobile to Cingular and found the
good deal on Amazon.  However, in the Amazon Family Plan Lowdown
portion, it mentions:

If you don't already have an account with Cingular Wireless:

  1. Make sure that Cingular Wireless service is available in your
area.
  2. Order a Cingular Wireless phone and individual plan on
Amazon.com. Then order up to three more Cingular Wireless phones
without service through Amazon.com. (Note: To order a phone without
service from Amazon.com, first select the phone and then scroll to the
bottom of the "compatible service plan" page to find the option for
"phone only purchase." You may not qualify for rebates or special
pricing on phones purchased without service plans.)
  3. Once you receive your new phones, call Cingular Wireless at
1-866-CINGULAR to designate your base line as FamilyTalk and add more
lines for your additional handsets.

Does it mean that only one phone will be qualified for rebate?  Anyone
has done this before?  What is the procedure?

And another annoying thing is the number portability.  Cingular seems
to change the way they handle the number portability.  If you want to
change the number, they will void your old contract and start another
contract.  Therefore, the rebate on Amazon will not be eligible after
porting the number.

If I can get a good deal on my family plan, the number portability is
something I can give up.  Anyone knows more about Amazon deal, cingular
family plan and number portability issue?

Thanks

OK - I am not going to try and answer the questions about the phones and
stuff - that is answered a couple of post lower.

However, with regards to the number portability - you should be able to port
your other cell phone/home phone to Cingular at the Amazon.com website when
you make your purchase.   The whole thing with the changes in the rate
plan - etc is to keep some people who are less than honest from starting a
new line of service to get a free Razr phone and then trying to activate
that phone on an existing account.  The whole point of the discounted
equipment is to get NEW customers.
