I did call and spoke to a tech who said there is a problem in the area. I
guess I'm just curious to see how widespread it was. I've been unable to
connect since yesterday. If this goes on for any length of time, will
Cingular credit my account for this downtime?

Hi Ric
Well let me put it this way, if you short changed them for one day
would they come after the money? You bet they would. I would call
after service returns and politely ask if you will be reimbursed or
compensated for the loss of service. It does work sometimes depending
on how long it is out of service. All they can say is yes/no.

I am in NYC and I can't access the net either.
Strange thing is I have VZW also and when I try to access the net with them
I can't either getting the error message "network is down".
I didn't think that both a CDMA and a GSM provider would be effected with
the same problem.

I travel in and out of the NY - NJ area. I noticed last week (after
being gone for 3 weeks) that I can no longer use the 260 (T-Mobile)
data carrier. It is there, but my PC card will not log onto it. 410
(Cingular) is not represented in the NYC area. 380 (formerly AT&T) is
the only game in town. Before I would use 260 in the NYC area, as it
was the only reliable connection there (at least in most areas I
visited). This past week I was able to get online with 380, but
usually it was very slow, and I had frequent disconnects. Note: this
is with Cingular's Laptop Connect service.

My experience is that Cingular does not rebate for time that the service
is not available. I filed a complaint with the FCC about that as the
data service has been on and off for some months in the Mid Atlantic
anyway. Better right now.

I called the after hours number tonight and the person I spoke to wouldn't
answer me when I asked about being comped for down time. She suggested I
cancel service until its up again. This seems like a strange thing for
Cingular to suggest.
