Why would somebody choose cingular? Give me 10 good
reasons why cingular over the other providers. They
have the worst customer service for voice and don't
even ask about data (GPRS/MMS) problems.
Why, list them below.

No.1 I can talk on it, no dropped calls, that's why I carry a phone, not to
surf the net, send text messages or to take pictures. But to TALK on
Cingular does that for me!!

Why should we?? If you don't like Cingular, then go away. You don't want
info... you just want to whine.

There are four possible reasons. Which one will you choose? Well, we
can't say, because then *we* would be choosing instead of *you*.
I think you already know that answer to that one.

the only reason you should use cingular is if you like their service and you
know alot of people that use cingular and will benefit there m2m system.

You're trolling. But anyway.
1. Friends might use (free minutes)
2. Selection of Phones (RAZR)
3. Rollover minutes
4. might be stuck in a contract :)
5. GSM standard (a necessity for people who travel to Europe)
That's 5 reasons. But then, you only list two why one should NOT pick
Cingular. Well one really, seeing as you don't want us to even "ask"
about data (by the way, Cingular HAS EDGE know, you know that right?).
And even that reason is based entirely on your opinion.
The point is, not every carrier is perfect for everyone. You may hate
Cingular, but others may find that it suits them perfectly.
And no, I'm not a Cingular customer. I on Verizon. Still, I don't
troll around and tell people they're idiots for picking Cingular.
Everyone has a reson for why they've chosen their carrier. It's called
freedom of choice, and it's a wonderful thing.

Agreed. Even though SprintPCS and CDMA technology are the best, everyone has
freedom of choice and their own reason for choosing a carrier. :-) ;-)

Depends on the area. Here in the Tri-Valley part of the San Francisco Easy
Bay, Sprint is the worst of the major carriers with regard to call quality.

They didn't want a $200 deposit.
Customer service is better than Verizon.
$20 data plan.
Voice quality does suck, unless your looking at the tower.

You may have a bad phone -- GSM voice quality is at least as good as other
technologies.

Don't know about 10 reasons, but I don't *need* 10 reasons. All that matters
to me are-
It works. Virtually everywhere I go. Across the US, and I never have to
worry about roaming charges (unlike my brothers' "nationwide" coverage on
Verizon, which frequently picks up a roaming carrier and attendant charges,
almost randomly, at least in Madison, WI). And it works in France & England.
So wherever I go, Cingular does the job for me.
Coverage gets better and better. Seriously, since the merger, coverage has
been great. At a time when everyone seems to be complaining that their
coverage is getting worse, mine is getting better.
Momentum. I've had it for quite some time (former AT&T since... 1997?).

Their customer service is terrible. The ONLY reason that I stick with
them is rollover. I have 4 phones in a family plan and a bank of 6000
minutes. For months that I have heavy usage I never spend more than my
monthly plan. When I was with T-Moble I would get $700 bills everyonce
in a while when I used my phone too much.
Ron Maxey - 16 Oct 2005 06:22 GMT
Because I get a pretty good discount with Cingular through my employer. And
the rollover minutes can't be beat. No complaints here.

Must be you unfortunately. I've had good luck with
Cingular ever since they bought out AT&T. I just recently
upgraded to a "pure" cingular phone and plan. Most of the
people I talk to are on Cingular, so with the rollover and
mobile to moblie, it was a no brainer sticking with them.
And, my rate plan dropped from a bill of 72.00 to 53.00
I did some calculating, on my old plan, 80% of my minutes
were mobile to mobile. Nothing like getting around 1100
minutes per month at "no charge" :)

If Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile don't have service where you need it,
go with Cingular.
THAT shold be the most compelling reason. All other reasons are secondary.

Or even if the Cingular coverage is just significantly better.

In NYC Verizon has a powerful signal but treat their employees like shyt. So
Since my brother works for Cingular I have gone with it nad love it. I have
a Treo650 and an unlimited data plan. It has bailed me out may times in
remote places where there was no other means of internet service..
Everywhere Verizon has a signal so does Cingular in this area and many
others. Tmobile and Sprint (not Nextel) suck for signal in the city. Enuf
reasons??

Actually, I believe that your information is incorrect. Sprint is much
better than Cingular in NYC. The company that I work for has an office there
and they have tried Cingular. Verizon or Sprint are the only two carriers in
NYC that provide good service for business use. I don't know about T-Mobile
because we did not test it. Note that there are locations thoughtout the USA
where Cingular provides better performance than Sprint or Verizon, but NYC
is not one of them.

About two years ago, AT&T was very poor in NYC. Not because they lacked
coverage, but because they had extremely insufficient capacity.
Cingular, at the time, was using T-Mobile's 1900 Mhz GSM network with
all its limitations in terms of 1900 Mhz and in-building penetration.
Now, after the merger, and the conversion of a lot of 800 Mhz TDMA
capacity to 800 Mhz GSM, things may have changed, especially if
something was done about the capacity issues.
Check the Consumer Report ratings. I think they are in the February
issue each year. Verizon is number one in all major cities of course,
but I don't recall who was second in the 2005 issue. CDMA is especially
well suited to dense cities, because it is so much more efficient in
terms of spectrum utilization (3-4x the number of simultaneous
connections for a given number of towers, versus GSM).

http://www.3gsmamericas.com/pdfs/pearson2003_waste_not_want_not.pdf>
... the fact is that, based on best-case data from CDMA vendors,
1XRTT with EVRC handles up to 156 Erlangs per sector. Bearing in mind
that GSM with AMR handles 142 Erlangs, it is a great stretch to argue
that 1xRTT has a major advantage over GSM....
