Due to a self inflicted stupid move, my daughters front screen no
longer works on her Moto V180 but the phone still works fine. We're
on the AT&T plan so my choices down at the store are extremely limited
and I'm half way kicking around the idea of giving her my V551 and
picking up one of those Razor 3 ones off of ebay.
Can anybody tell me if this is a bad idea? I'm not a big ebay fan
especially when it comes to giving someone a couple hundred bucks of
my money.
I also went to Moto site and I can't find a place where I can pick up
one from them directly? (and I'm not interested in a Cingular branded
one either)

ebay is generally fine for phones as long as you exercise some caution. i
wouldnt buy some uber expensive cutting edge phone that isnt availale
to the general public yet (lots of people preying on the fact that some
people
have to have the newest first and are willing to pay a premium) , but i
would (and have) bought from people with good feedback, and ive
sold a number of phones on ebay as well. i probably wouldnt buy any
phones where the seller is outside the US either.

Thanks for the advice. Yea, I'm just a little bit scared of ebay.

I have dealt with these people in person. (they are located in the north
side of chicago.)
Just make sure it has 850mhz. I bought 3 phones there. Very good service.

I'm always thankful of a link that someone else has had good
experience. Thanks, I'll check it out.

I'm glad I asked in advance cause I would have never known about
needing to make sure of the 850. Thanks again, Dan....

Seems like most unlocked V180s are selling for under $100 including shipping
on Ebay. Many sellers are advertising "Buy It Now" prices of $70-$90. That's
the way I'd go. Just make sure you buy from a US seller with a large
positive feedback score.

If I were you, I would go ahead and give your daughter the V551 and either
get another one of these for yourself, or go with the RAZR. I recently
upgraded from the V180 to the RAZR and I love it. The V180 was a good phone
for awhile, but I soon came to realize that it is a piece of junk. Now my
wife's V180 is acting up and she might go with the RAZR as well. Do yourself
a favor and junk the V180. My sister went through 5 of them, both through
Ebay and through Cingular and their warranty returns. Now she has the V551,
and she has had no problems.

The 551 has been an excellent performer for me. The 180 (Sacramento)
here as well...No problems. Since she told me about her screen
problem (she sat on her phone) it's been giving me an excuse to
upgrade not that the RAZR is really an upgrade.
