Hello again. After consulting this newsgroup I finally decided to bite the bullet and get a new cellular plan (previous GoPhone, now 2-year contract + free LG C2000 phone) along with $19.99/mth unlimited MediaNet option. Although I couldn't find the unlimited MediaNet plan on the Cingular website, it was readily available at a Cingular store and was listed in their brochure. After asking, the clerk didn't hide the fact that I could tether the phone with my laptop, and added that I could use MediaNet with a PC Card by inserting my SIM card into it. Of course constantly having to swap out my SIM would be inconvenient, I was wondering if I could clone my cell phone's SIM card and use the duplicate in the PC Card. Does anyone have more info on such usage? Would such a hack allow me to get broadband rates using MediaNet? For cable tethering, last night I purchased a FutureDial USB data cable and installed its software along with that of the LG sync software, but I haven't been able to get my phone to speak to my PC, even though the WAP Internet service works on my phone. The LG software installed a modem on COM1, and the FutureDial software installed a "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port" on COM1. Using the WinXP Internet setup wizard I created a new dialup networking connection for the modem. During configuration I noticed that all the setup parameters used on the J. Nava website were already set up in my cell phone. Is there supposed to be a modified setting for allowing the phone to communicate with the laptop? I keep getting the error: "Error 718: The connection was terminated because the remote computer did not respond in a timely manner..." When I queried the LG modem in Device Manager the result showed success. APN: wap.cingular username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM pwd: CINGULAR1 ISP telephone: *99# IP: 66.209.11.xx modem and COM port set = 115200 bps max speed Thanks in advance. >Hello again. Good answer. I might suggest something that might be a little easier. Download the communications manager from the Cingular website - unhook the phone - run the software and wait for it to tell you to connect it. Thanks for your reply. However, things have gone from bad to worse. I can no longer get the modem to be recognized. After querying the modem I get an error indicating that the modem is not responding and might not be connected. I installed the Cingular Connection Manager, but after initialization it claims that it cannot detect a wireless device. Before, it would detect the modem but could not get a connection to the remote computer. The LG PC Sync app was working fine for a while but now it times out without making a connection. I took the data cable back to Radio Shack and replaced it but I'm still getting the same non-recognition of the modem. I suspect there is some software problem involved but I've tried just about everything and cannot get my LG software modem recognized. I'm about ready to give up on the data cable modem and try either IR or Bluetooth, if available with the C2000. Have you tried BVRP Phone tools. I used this to test the tether and i works fine for me with no settings. I installed BVRP Mobile Phon tools, hooked the phone up via USB or Bluethooth, then hit the Glob Internet Button, and I was on. Fix: Problem was needed to change BVRP APN setting to WAP.CINGULAR instea of ISP.CINGULAR.
