I want a GSM phone with Cingular that would have GSM and also analog
AMPs...they only one that I can find is the GAIT ones with also TDMA..are
there any Cingular phones with just GSM and AMPs? I can not find any...

No, that's it.  AT&T offers more TDMA phones but only one GAIT phone.
It seems that Nokia's phone keeps crashing and really doesn't support
AMPS.  Cingular has TDMA phones but only GAIT has GSM included.  The
goal is to convert everyone into the GSM market.  Eventually it is
planned that TDMA will no longer play a role in cellular communications.
Although there are some attempts to eliminate AMPS there are too many
rural carriers who still provide this service to actually erase it.
I have heard rumors of a third GAIT phone but until interest in GAIT
phones becomes more PUBLICALLY wide spread it is unlikely that that this
market will expand.  In the North West AT&T is not aware of how popular
GAIT phones really are.  Much of this is because Cingular outright
refuses to sell them up here.

What GAIT phone does AT&T offer?  I have a feeling that AT&T and
Cingular will stop offering TDMA phones altogether pretty soon, as once
all TDMA phones are not being used, they can convert their TDMA network
to full GSM.  This is quite a challenge as both are vigorously trying to
expand their GSM networks while still adding customers to thier TDMA
networks.  Hence, I predict they will offer attractive plans REQUIRING a
GAIT phone to get customers to switch.  Isn't their national plan
already the best deal??  The Preferred Nation beats out the Verizon
America's Choice for both minutes and coverage area (although Verizon
does have unlimited N&W, but if you move, you could lose those as they
are "promotional only").

Your feeling would be wrong.

In the stores AT&T is offering the T62U.  As for TDMA I figure another
five to ten years may be more realistic.  But if enough customers refuse
to switch to GSM AT&T is likely to keep TDMA running.
