Cingular has offered my wife 3 different phones to replace her third
defective Nokia 3120 under warranty.  The three phones are:

Nokia 6102
LG C2000
Sony Ericsson Z500A

She's really not too concerned with any of the bells and whistles that all 3
have.  Her primary interest is which phone will perform best as a phone.  In
other words, which phone tends to have the strongest reception?  I was
leaning towards the Nokia based on past experience but don't want to sell
the others short.  I'd appreciate any comments.

Thanks,
Nick

According to the local Cingular store in my area, Nokia phones work better
on the Cingular network than Motorola and other phones.  A few reps in the
Cingular store suggested to stay away from LG and Ericson phones for
reliability.

YMMV.

Interesting.  I've seen a lot of pro-Nokia comments in the various GSM NGs.
But the phone most often carried by Cingular corporate reps in the
Northeast & Midatlantic is the Motorola V551.

Not interesting at all.  It's called publicity for a high-profit-margin
model.  -Dave

I use the Motorola V551 phone and been through three of the so far within a
year.  Cingular replaced the phone due to problems (including product
advisories).  I used to use Nokia phone before switching to Cingular and
never remember going through more than one phone.

That's a tough call but considering everything I think that - IMHO - I would
go with the z500a

We've got two Nokia 3220 phones that work extremely well.  I'm surprised
your wife wasn't offered one of those, as it is cheaper than a couple of
phones on your list.  -Dave

i like the nokia 6102, its a nice phone with a very nice color outside
display.
the z500a is a good strong phone, pretty much unbreakable due to its soft
(read easy to scratch) plastic.
ive never used the lg, but in the past all the lg phones i had ususally
sucked.

id go check out what ones you like.

This is bad news, my gf really wanted a flip phone, so we got th
LG2000 which the store had a promo for (BOGO Free).  I was reall
worried that the "talk time" was only estimated at 3.5 hours.  But sh
realy wanted to pay the 50 bucks for the phone rather than go throug
the business department and get the 3120 for free

I think it's fairly common knowledge that the phones that have the
best RF and work in areas that other phones will not is Nokia.  Go
post this at howardforums.com and put up a Poll and let people
vote.

The two best performers on that list are the Nokia 6102 and the SE Z500a.
Other good phones are the Motorola V551 and RAZR V3.
