Cingular is doing E911 location by means of U-TDOA, which works with any GSM
mobile device.

Just curious- what is the criteria for creating an FAQ?  I ask because there
appears to be none.  A question does not even have to appear to have an FAQ
created.  Is this just another one of your ego stokes, or are you
circumventing acceptable posting procedures?

This is actually recommended Usenet practice.

Then why not wait until you have enough FAQs to fill a few pages and THEN
post?
THAT would be better IMO.

Then why not do it yourself, or at least be constructive, say by making a
contribution?  THAT would be better IMO.  ;)

In fact this is how FAQs are commonly built, a question and answer at a time.
For more information, see "FAQs about FAQs" at

But the question was never asked.  There is no question to answer with an
FAQ.

You must be a newbie around here, questions of how 911 location services
work has been asked numerous times.

Far from a newb, and a quick scan of the archives for the group show it to
be anything but a frequently asked question.  In fact, I don't see many
posts at all about:

Why charging Motorola phones is so slow
ENS making for better coverage or connection
the outgoing STMP server for Cingular

and yet we were graced with FAQ's for these as well.  I see the need when
there is one, but to fabricate one is a pretty pathetic attempt to impress.
John has done such a prolific job of touting all of the great things
Cingular has done during the merger- maybe it would be a better use of his
time to create a merger FAQ.  I could then post an FAQ countering his FAQ
with corrections to the obvious errors and pointing out all of the things
being done to inconvenience thier customers because of the merger.  I
believe these would much better serve the community at hand, as these types
of questions are much more frequent here.

So, as John's time manager, and in the interest of the community at
hand, you propose he restrict his FAQ publishing efforts to issues more
timely to your own un-FAQ publishing schedule?  Sort of a tit-for-tat
thing?  Yet you claim un-newb member status.  Curiously interesting from
my corner of the playground.

Not a newbie, just a jealous nastie seeking attention who contributes nothing.

Jealous of what?  Not having a clue?

You see, unlike you, I stick to the facts and don't substitute uninformed
opinions for them.  Unlike you, I don't publically proclaim to be a subject
matter expert on things I have no practical knowledge of.  Unlike you, I
don't avoid or brush away the facts in a discussion.  You say I contribute
nothing- the statement should read that I contribute nothing that supports
your childish and uninformed claims.

In the last 24 hours, you've been caught in this very group touting both
sides of an argument as fact, when they are in complete contradiction.  What
is there to be jealous of?  An over-inflated ego.

Wow!  Imagine that!  Someone hasn't been around forever to get that
question answered.  Who'da thunk it?  I know it must seem like a real
imposition to you to explain it or perhaps your fingers were so tired
from brushing someone off that you didn't have the constitution to
make the explanation anyway.
