IMAP, Exchange 2000, V551 problem

I have a problem with Exchange Server crashing at my office when I have my
V551 set to check for email periodically.  It logs in to IMAP but never logs
out, so that after a while there are multiple active log ins.  Finally the
server's CPU is overwhelmed and locks up.

IMAP works fine from my Pocket PC with the same phone as a modem so I
suspect it is an issue with the phone's software/firmware or setup.  I have
an older version of firmware, but my phone came unlocked and I'm hesitant to
update it and have it locked in the process.  Solving this problem would be
enough motivation to get the update though.

Has anyone else had this problem and solved it?

try using the phone as a a.s-dildo, then lick the drippings off it.

This sounds like a bug in Exchange (suprise).  IMAP allows persistent
connections.

I believe your phone will only be locked if you get the firmware from
your phone carrier.  Getting new firmware from Motorola shouldn't lock
your phone.

This is a problem even with POP3 access.  I consider it a bug.  I know of no
easy solution.

Thanks, John.  Do you think it is specific to the V551, or Motorola, or
Cingular, or all-the-above?

Looks to me like this makes the phone unusable as a standalone email client
except for the new Java based Mobile Email client that works fairly well so
far.  I guess I'll just keep the PPC nearby for my business mail.

I'm guessing Motorola -- I've never seen it with Sony Ericsson handsets.

I would have to agree that is would appear to be a Moto issue rather than
one specific to the carrier but if there are any Verizon/Sprint/T-Mobile
users that encounter the same issue I am certain we would all be interested
in hearing from you.

A search of the MS Knowledge Base did not yield any relevant results but I
will admit it was a half hearted attempt also.

Set the re-checking interval to a longer time period.  Then check for how to
reset the timeout interval on the exchange server.  It's a defective client
that doesn't close it's connections properly.  But the server should be
configurable to handle closing this quicker, or at the very least avoid
hanging things.

Thanks, I'll check into it and post the results.
